Dear New London Public Schools Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to an exciting 2016-2017 school year. It is amazing at how fast the summer weeks and months have passed, but we are ready and looking forward to the return of all our students.

We are constantly seeking to improve our schools, improve communications and create great schools of excellence for all. To that end, there are many new developments:

New London Public Schools are becoming the schools of choice for the region.

  • Last year students enrolled in our magnet schools of excellence from twenty-one surrounding communities. This year, students from thirty-four regional communities will attend our schools.
  • This summer we completed upgrades to all of our school sites. We upgraded everything from the landscaping to lockers, playgrounds to painted classrooms and we continue to transform the spaces at BDJMS and Harbor School as the programs on each campus expand.
  • Our new Arts Magnet Middle School for students in grades 6-7 will open this year.
  • Partnerships with Connecticut College, Mitchell College, Three Rivers Community College, the United States Coast Guard Academy are expanding.
  • We will be rolling out the “Chefs In Schools” program at New London High School and Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School.

These are just a few of our many new improvements as we work together to build a great school district.

Please also know that we are committed to building positive on-going relationships with parents and families and you can expect improved communications this coming year.

For more information, please visit our new website,
newlondon.org, and expect regular reports on our progress as we become the region’s educational destination.

Please note:

  • Information on bus routes and schedules are listed on the New London Public school website, newlondon.org, Facebook, or you can call Julian Wilson at 1-860-439-7878
  • All new PreK-5 students must be registered with the Welcome Center, located on the first floor in the Central Office building at 134 Williams Street, while all new students in grades 6-12 should register at their respective school.

We are ready, waiting, and eager to kick off the 2016-17 school year and I look forward to seeing your children on the first day of school, Thursday, September 1st.

Sincerely,

Dr. Manuel J. Rivera
