All children in New London will be ready for Kindergarten. Our strategy will be two-fold:
We will identify all children born in New London and ensure that they receive an unprecedented level of nurturing, support, language and cognitive development from their parent/s (or guardian) and a health care provider, during their early growth and development years.
We will ensure all New London children ages three to five have access and are enrolled in a PreK Learning Center that meets NL’s Quality Rating Standards.
Key Initiatives:
- Birth to Age Three: Establish the lead partnership consortium; design program and service plan; acquire funding and phase-in implementation no later than 2017-18 school year.
- PreK for ages Three and Four: Ensure access for all children. Achieve consensus on quality standards for all PreK classrooms, develop Operating Plan, acquire funding and deliver plan. PreK program expansion in 2016-17 to include four (4) new PreK classes serving an additional 60 children, pending “Smart Start” funding approval.
