Last week, Dr. Rivera, Lou Allen and Kristina Jordan attended the CT NAACP Educational Summit. The Summit was geared towards the recruitment of minority teachers. The two-day agenda included presentations from over thirty Historically Black Colleges and Universities who are interested in sending highly qualified teachers to Connecticut. Dr. Sarah Barzee, Chief Talent Officer for the State Department of Education presented on the Connecticut Teacher’s Certification Process. 

Dr. Benjamin Foster, Chairman of the Education Committee and former Connecticut Superintendent facilitated the first day and the lunch keynote was Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, the first African-American woman to receive a Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University. On day two the keynote speaker was Dr. Rudy Crew, President, Medgar Evers College and former Chancellor, New York City Schools.
