Dear Members of the New London School Community,

Late this afternoon and evening, we have been made aware of additional COVID-positive cases. Based on the number of schools recently affected by COVID positive students and staff, and the associated contact tracing efforts happening now, New London Public Schools has decided to close all schools to in-person instruction tomorrow, Friday November 6th

All staff and students will participate in teaching and learning through Distance Learning (virtual) programming on Friday, November 6th.

COVID-19 is thought to be spread via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. As with controlling the spread of other viruses, we urge everyone to take the following preventive measures:

  • Wash your hands regularly, especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and hot water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to also wash your fingertips.
  • Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue away. If you do not have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.
  • As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. The symptoms of coronavirus include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and loss of smell or taste.

Additional symptoms include runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, congestion, muscle, or body aches. Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Parents of students or staff who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 need to contact their primary care provider.

Thank you for your flexibility and support as we work together to ensure safety for all.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Ritchie
